<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish good positioning accuracy and to prevent an occupant from being released during a rollover event or subsequent impact. <P>SOLUTION: The air bag for side impact provided with a self-tension type lower edge in order to position the air bag during side impact, a rollover accident or subsequent impact is fixed to a vehicle along a roof rail between a front pillar and a rear pillar 121, 122. A pair of tethers 125, 126 is fixed to the air bag at a lower portion and is successively fixed to the front pillar and the rear pillar. A plurality of substantially V shape tethers 108 of zero length are extended from the lower portion to define a plurality of chambers. When these chambers are inflated, the lower portion of the air bag is reduced and derives tension relative to the tether. When the air bag for side impact is inflated, it is positioned itself between the occupant and a vehicle window and is retained to the position by tension formed by the inflation chambers. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
