PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently retrieve desired images while reducing the burden of providing metadata. SOLUTION: Upon downloading image data captured with a camera 7, a terminal device 6 requests a metadata providing server 2 to provide metadata to the image data. Upon receiving the request from the terminal device 6 to provide the metadata to the image data, the metadata providing server 2 provides the metadata to the image data and sends the image data provided with the metadata back to the terminal device 6. Upon receiving the image data with the metadata from the metadata providing server 2, the terminal device 6 changes the metadata provided to the image data into a name that is easy for the user to understand, such as a personal name or nickname, and retrieves the image data according to the metadata changed.
