PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine with a variable valve mechanism capable of suppressing the swing of an output gear in the axial direction. SOLUTION: This engine comprises a rocker shaft 53, a control shaft 54 disposed in the rocker shaft 53 in an axially movable state, and a valve lift mechanism mounted on the rocker shaft 53 and lifting an engine valve. The valve lift mechanism comprises a slider gear 6 mounted on the rocker arm 53 and movable in association with the control shaft 54, an input gear 7 mounted on the slider gear 6 and coming into contact with the cam of a camshaft, and output gears 8 and 9 mounted on the slider gear 6 and coming into contact with the roller rocker arm of the engine valve. Then, shaft support parts 84 and 94 extending in the axial direction of the rocker shaft 53 and supporting the output gears 8 and 9 in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the rocker shaft 53 are formed integrally with the output gears 8 and 9.
