PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound having a low absorption in the red region, and to provide an organoelectroluminescent element or the like having a high light emission efficiency using the compound. SOLUTION: The azulene derivative has a substituent group containing a structure selected from among a dialkylaniline, triphenylamine, carbazole, phenylcarbazole and biphenyl. The azulene derivative has a low absorption in the red region and stable even when formed into a thin film and therefore can be adopted, for example, for a hole injection layer of the organoelectroluminescent element.
