PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for the oral cavity, excellent in an effect of preventing and treating dentin hypersensitivity, excellent in an effect of cleaning stains on surfaces of teeth caused by tobacco tar, etc., and having a good sense of use when the teeth are brushed. SOLUTION: This composition for the oral cavity contains (A) potassium nitrate in an amount of 0.1-10 mass%, (B) a straight-chain water-soluble polyphosphoric acid salt expressed by general formula: M<SB>n+2</SB>P<SB>n</SB>O<SB>3n+1</SB>(M is Na or K; and n is an integer of 2 or more) in an amount of 0.1-2.0 mass%, and (C) a polyhydric alcohol in an amount of 40-70 mass%, wherein a mass ratio of the potassium nitrate (A) to the straight-chain water-soluble polyphosphoric acid salt (B) is 1.5 to 50.
