PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxygen generating apparatus and a material for generating oxygen, with which the generation of gaseous chlorine or the like generated simultaneously when the oxygen is generated, can be suppressed and adverse effects on an apparatus using the generated oxygen or on human body can be reduced. SOLUTION: The oxygen generating apparatus is equipped with a storage vessel 3 for storing the material 2a for generating oxygen in its inside, a decomposition vessel 4 for decomposing the material 2a for generating oxygen at its inside to generate oxygen, and a supply tube 5 for supplying the material 2a for generating oxygen to the decomposition vessel 4 from the storage vessel 3. The material 2a for generating oxygen is at least one of lithium perchlorate and lithium chlorate, and at least one of an alkali metal, an oxide of the alkali metal and a hydroxide of the alkali metal is added to the material 2a for generating oxygen as a material 2b for suppressing the generation of chlorine.
