<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transfer a number of images, without increasing the capacity of buffer memory or repeating insertion and removal operations of cards many times. <P>SOLUTION: In a digital camera 1 having a slot 18, into which a memory card 19 or a communication card 20 is loaded selectively, images which are set for transfer on the memory card 19 are once copied onto a built-in memory 38 of a relatively large capacity, and then are transferred to the outside via the communication card 20. In this case, by providing a function of retrieving images copied in a special copy mode as images set for transfer from the built-in memory 38 in distinction from the other images, only the images set for transfer can be transferred from the built-in memory 38 via the communication card 20.
