<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective polarizing member, having a wide and effective area to an incident light though it is small by processing reflection light beams having different optical path directions by a plurality of times of reflection and a long lifetime projector that uses the same. <P>SOLUTION: A processing for emitting unwanted optical components with different optical path directions, without returning them to the incidence plane side and making them incident on a light-absorbing body, etc. is performed since reflected light beams, namely, the unwanted light components are emitted from a transmission area surface AT of an optical emission surface 36 at a state that the polarizing member is arranged so that the inclination directions of each return light RL to the optical emission surface 36 are reversed and become approximately equal incidence angle, by taking into consideration all the reflection conditions on an optical incidence plane 34 and further considering a base angle α as suitably 90° or approximately 90°.
