<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element capable of effectively cutting off the transmitted light beam, even from an oblique incident light beam, and moreover of suppressing coloration. <P>SOLUTION: At least two layers of reflection polarizers A are laminated, and at least one layer of a phase difference layer B for making of the polarization characteristics change is laminated between the reflection polarizers A. Each reflection polarizer A is made of cholesteric liquid crystal which polarizes, splits, and projects incident light; and projection light to incident light in a normal direction has a distortion rate of 0.5 or larger and projection light to incident light which is incident at 60° or larger from the normal direction has a ≤0.2 distortion rate. Further, a reflecting polarizer (A) of at least one layer is a linear polarization reflecting polarizer A2 which transmits one among the orthogonal linearly polarized light beams and selectively reflects others, and the phase difference layer B is a layer B1, whose front phase difference value is nearly λ/4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
