<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting method of a fuel cell in which galvanic corrosion of an electrode is prevented, lifetime of a fuel cell can be prolonged, and performance reduction can be suppressed in starting at a temperature below freezing point. <P>SOLUTION: This is the starting method of the fuel cell provided with a fuel cell stack in which a plurality of cells are laminated. In starting the fuel cell stack at least at the temperature below the freezing point, an effective electrode area to contribute to actual power generation is calculated based on a cell voltage obtained in flow of a prescribed current, the largest current value made to flow in the cell is calculated based on the effective electrode area, and this is started at the largest current value or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
