PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive power split type continuously variable transmission having a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: This power split type continuously variable transmission is provided with a torque converter 2 having a lock-up mechanism, a variator input shaft 3 connected with the torque converter 2, a toroidal type variator 4 connected with the variator input shaft, a mechanical loading mechanism 12 connected with the variator input shaft 3 to press an input disc 5 toward an output disc 7, a bypass shaft 13 connected with the variator input shaft 3, and a planetary gear mechanism 16 composed of a first rotary element connected with the output side of the toroidal type variator 4 and connectable with an output shaft selectively through an advance clutch 18, a second rotary element connectable with the bypass shaft selectively through a bypass clutch 14, and a third rotary element connected with the output shaft 19. The planetary gear mechanism 16 and the toroidal type variator 4 are coaxially arranged, and the bypass shaft 13 passes through the inner periphery of the toroidal type variator 4.
