PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly converge an air-fuel ratio to a stoichiometric point when an engine is operated at a rich air-fuel ratio after starting and then performs an air-fuel ratio feedback control. SOLUTION: After the activity of an air-fuel ratio sensor is detected based on the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor and a time passed after the starting, the reducing speed of a stability increasing value KSTB of a target air-fuel ratio correcting factor TFBYA is increased more than a case before the activity is detected while maintaining an air-fuel ratio feedback correction factor ALPHA at a reference value 1.
