PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system in which a computer side can compress image data at high speed with a high compression rate and a printer side, employing small-scale hardware uncompresses the compressed image data at a high speed. SOLUTION: The printing system includes the computer 11 and the printer 13 and uses the printer 13 for printing out image data subjected to pseudo gradation by using a dither pattern DP, wherein the computer 11 demarcates the image data for each prescribed region, discriminates whether a dot arrangement pattern of the image data in each region match a dither pattern DP used for the pseudo-gradation, obtains a representative value a with respect to the density of the image data in the region when there is a match, and transmits compressed data D2 related to the obtained representative value a to the printer 13, and the printer 13 acquires the representative value a of each region from the compressed data D2 transmitted from the computer 11 and compares the acquired representative value a with the dither pattern DP to reproduce the dot pattern.
