A system and method are disclosed for high performance message passing between an origin computing node (1000) and a target computing node (1100). A target progress thread is caused to receive a message from an origin process user thread to initiate a one sided communication operation. A target copy buffer (1210) of a target progress thread is caused to respond to the received message for assisting in completing communication operations.
