In a vacuum distillation method involving heating a solution in an evaporation vessel (2) under reduced pressure, removing gas evaporated from the solution by suction, condensing solvent contained in the gas and collecting the condensate in a vessel (7), at least part of the gas remaining after condensation of the solvent is fed as purging gas, via a purging lance (10), into the solution in the evaporation vessel, to ensure thorough mixing. An independent claim is included for corresponding condensation apparatus, comprising a heatable evaporation vessel (2) for heating a solution, a vacuum pump (6) for sucking evaporated gas from the vessel, a condensation cooler (5) between the pump and the vessel and a condensate collection vessel (7), where the pressure side of the vacuum pump is connected to a purging lance (10), via which at least part of the gas remaining after condensation of the solvent is fed directly into the solution in the evaporation vessel.
