摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform division multiplex optical transmission system in which setting of the residual variance of a received signal to an optimal value other than 0 is realized simultaneously with reduction in variance compensation error, and to provide an optical transmitter, a relay node and a waveform division multiplex optical transmission method. <P>SOLUTION: In the waveform division multiplex optical transmission system where a plurality of optical signals having different wavelengths are generated by an LN modulator in an optical transmitter 1 and subjected to wavelength multiplexing by an OMUX 12 to produce a WDM signal, the WDM signal is transmitted from the optical transmitter 1 to an optical receiver 2 through transmission path optical fibers 3a-3c, and transmission path variance in the transmission path optical fiber 3c is 100% compensated in the receiver 2, the optical transmitter 1 has a section 13 for adding a predetermined variance value to the WDM signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
