PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dust-eliminating method and a dust-eliminating device in the manufacturing process of a coated optical fiber, in which ample dust elimination is realized, without scratching the optical fiber core. SOLUTION: A running optical fiber 11 is held from both sides by fibrous materials 23 provided at the respective opposing surfaces of materials 20a and 20b having elasticity. Both the elastic materials 20a and 20b are pressed against each other by a weight 21. Thus, the running optical fiber 11 is held stably by fibrous materials 23 employing a constant pressing force, and it is desirable that polyester fibrous felt be used for the elastic materials 20a and 20b, and polyester becomes suitable as the fibrous materials 23.
