PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting hood which can ensure the concentricity of a shield machine with respect to the starting hood by preventing a seal, attached to an inner peripheral surface of the starting hood, from being collapsed or damaged, when the starting hood is conveyed in an existing tunnel in the state of covering an outer periphery of the shield machine. SOLUTION: This starting hood comprises: a starting hood body 4x which is conveyed in the existing tunnel 3 in the state of slidably covering the outer peripheral section of the shield machine (split piece 1); the seal 6 which is provided on the inner peripheral surface of the hood body 4x, and which is formed in a ring shape along a circumferential direction so as to cut off a section between the inner peripheral surface and the outer peripheral section; and a raised section 8 which is provided on the inner peripheral surface in the state of sandwiching the seal 6 in between, so as to support the outer peripheral section in the state of isolating it from the inner peripheral surface.
