<p>Cpds. of formula (1):- (R is H or 1-3C alkyl; X is halo, pref. Cl or OH) in addn. to fireproofing textiles give them a permanent finish esp. cellulose/synthetic fibre mixtures contg. =70% synthetic fibres. 1 : X is halogen is prepd. from 2 moles of a tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-phosphonium salt and 1 mole of N-methylol-acrylamide at pH 4-8 pref. 6-7, 100-140 degrees pref. 120-130 degrees at reduced press. and 1:X is OH from 1 mole tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-phosphonium chloride in alcoholic soln. neutralised with Na2CO3 at 20-40 degrees C, and after filtering off NaCl, reacted with 1/2 mole N-methylol-acrylamide at 100 degrees at reduced press.</p> |
