Calls are automatically diverted from a mobile telephone to a landline telephone based upon detection of the mobile telephone in proximity to the landline telephone. A first telephone e.g. a mobile telephone 110 and a second telephone e.g. a PSTN telephone 120 have means to detect the proximity of the telephones to each other. The proximity detection may be via an RF link through transceivers 119, 129, for example a Bluetooth (RTM) link, or a physical connection 123. When the mobile telephone is detected in close proximity to the landline telephone, calls are forwarded automatically from the mobile to the landline. Call forwarding may be deactivated automatically when it is sensed that the mobile phone is no longer in proximity to the landline. The landline phone may be equipped with a cradle 121 to charge the mobile phone, and the connection with the charger may be sensed and used to initiate call forwarding. In an alternative embodiment, call forwarding can be initiated by pressing a key located on either telephone, even if the telephones are not in proximity. |
