A hinge for a variable displacement compressor

The subject invention provides a pivot assembly for rotatably connecting a rotor (10) to a swash plate (18) in a variable displacement compressor. The rotor (10) and swash plate (18) each having pivot arms (14) supporting pivot pins (16, 22). A hinge (24) is mounted to both of the pivot pins (16, 22) for operatively connecting the rotor (10) to the swash plate (18). The hinge (24) includes a first mounting portion (26) receiving one of the pins (16, 22) and a second mounting portion (28) receiving the other pin (16, 22) with a central planar region (34) disposed between the first (26) and second (28) mounting portions. A tab (40) extends from the central planar region (34) toward each of the first (26) and second (28) mounting portions to engage the pins (16, 22) and fixedly secure the pins (16, 22) within their respective mounting portions (26, 28). The pins (16, 22) therefore remain mounted to the hinge (24) during an operation of the variable displacement compressor.
