An automotive accessory such as a car mat includes a backing layer 2, and a front layer 4 covering at least a portion of the backing layer and carrying a graphic image 8. A plurality of optical fibres are substantially enclosed between the two layers together with an LED light source. An inner end of each of the fibres is disposed adjacent to the light source and an outer end of each fibre projects through the front layer, such that the fibres conduct light from the light source and emit the light as an array of point sources 16 on the front layer. The LED light source may be powered by one or more electrical cells and a push-type on/off switch may be enclosed between the two layers to control the supply of electricity to the light source. The backing layer 2 may also be secured to any base substrate using releasable attachment means such as complimentary layers of hook and loop material, press studs etc. |
