Adjacent flanks 23 of the corrugations are joined alternately by a resilient loop portion 25 of the strip and by a flattened portion 24 which is subsequently welded to an arcuate support strip 19. Fig. 4 shows the formation of the corrugated strip using dies 32, 36, 38. Thereafter a tool 41, Fig. 6, or 41<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7, is applied to distort the loop portion 24 and impart to the strip a curvature corresponding to the concave or convex surface of the support strip 19.
