<p>A tile 50 is applied to a surface by applying adhesive 54 to the tile 50 and / or the surface 52, and before or after applying the tile to the surface, a spacer accessory 200 is placed between the tile and the surface; in the former case the accessory 200 is slid under the tile so that bevelled edge 204 serves to raise the tile somewhat so that it rests on flat surface 206 and abuts the upstanding rib. As shown in Figure 3, the accessory may be circular with bevel 324, flat surface 322, apertures 330 and raised spacer ribs 326.
