The present invention relates to novel fatty acid analogues of the general formula (I): CH<SUB>3</SUB>-[CH<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB>m</SUB>-[x<SUB>i</SUB>-CH<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB>n</SUB>-COOR, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 12, and wherein m is an integer from 0 to 23, and wherein i is an odd number which indicates the position relative to COOR, and wherein X<SUB>i </SUB>independent of each other are selected from the group comprising O, S, SO, SO<SUB>2</SUB>, Se and CH<SUB>2</SUB>, and wherein R represents hydrogen or C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>4 </SUB>alkyl, with the proviso that at least one of the X<SUB>i </SUB>is not CH<SUB>2</SUB>, or a salt, prodrug or complex thereof, for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment and/or prevention of primary and/or secondary stenosis. Further the present invention relates to the use of said compounds for the prevention and/or treatment of a disease caused by procedural vascular trauma and/or pathological proliferation of smooth muscle cells, and/or an increased level of plasma homocysteine.
