There is provided a method comprising: a) preparing a slurry having a temperature of between about 5.degree.C and about 85.degree.C by mining an oil sand deposit to produce a mined oil sand and mixing the mined oil sand with water; b) mixing the slurry with at least one hydrocarbon solvent thereby producing a solvent-slurry mixture; c) agitating the solvent - slurry mixture by transporting the solvent-slurry mixture along a pipeline, thereby producing an emulsion; and d) providing the emulsion to a primary separation facility.
