PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of discriminating a type of an image at a high speed and executing image processing in response to the type of the image in the case of reading the image and to provide an image reading method, an image reading program, a copying machine, a control method of the copying machine, and a control program of the copying machine. SOLUTION: In the case of controlling the image reading apparatus for reading an image from a recording medium for recording an image to produce image data, the image reading apparatus is controlled to acquire first image data resulting from reading the image with first read resolution and to discriminate the type of the image on the basis of the first image data, and in the case of controlling the image reading apparatus to read the image with second reading resolution, the second image data are acquired under an image acquisition condition in response to the type of the image denoted by a discrimination result in an image discrimination step.
