PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent display, equipped with a transparent negative electrode containing at least one alkaline constituent selected from alkaline metals, alkaline earth metals and fluorides thereof in a transparent conductive material and having a low work function, and capable of extracting light from the negative electrode side. SOLUTION: This organic electroluminescent display device is provided with a substrate, thin-film transistors formed on the substrate, positive electrodes formed on the substrate including the thin-film transistors, and a hole transport layer, a luminescent layer and negative electrodes formed sequentially on the positive electrodes, and is used for extracting light from the negative electrode side. The display device is such that the negative electrode contains at least one alkaline constituent selected from among alkaline metals, alkaline earth metals and fluorides thereof in a transparent conductive material.
