PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for preventing unnecessary working man-hour for a maintenance staff such as downloading when any memory abnormality is generated in downloading processing in a boot program, and for avoiding the risk of the damage of a device on a control board when a signal output becomes unstable due to the abnormal operation of a control program. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus equipped with a flash memory for storing a control program and a download means to the flash memory, and a memory abnormality detecting means, the flash memory is provided with the memory region of a non-downloadable boot program and the memory region of a downloadable main program, and each memory region is provided with a memory abnormality detecting means individually, and when any abnormality is generated in the memory region of the boot program, a maintenance staff is visually informed of the abnormality.
