PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of a higher-level application such as diagnostic software for a field device having to confirm response many times because of slow response from the field device, and having increases in the amount of communication needed to confirm the response as well as in communication waiting time. SOLUTION: This communication interface has provided therein a request cache for registering requests from the higher-level application and a response cache for storing response from the field device. When there is a request the response cache is searched and, if the response corresponding to the request is stored there, the response is immediately sent to the higher-level application.
