1283774 Oxo process IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 April 1970 [29 April 1969] 21816/69 Heading C2C Aldehydes or alcohols are prepared by reacting an olefine with CO and H 2 at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a hydroformylation catalyst and a homogeneous phase, liquid under the reaction conditions, comprising water and methanol, the amount of water being in the range 0À1 to 2À0% by liquid volume on the olefine. The product may be hydrogenated to convert aldehydes to alcohols. A burden oil may be present, preferably the high boiling liquid residue from the distillation of crude alcohols product by such hydrogenation. Examples obtain butanols from propylene by hydroformylation followed by hydrogenation. |
