<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create a material that causes reduced side-effects in the prevention and/or the therapy of arteriosclerosis, can persistently be ingestible and can obtain definitive effect by solving the problems that, although the prevention of arteriosclerosis has been tried with medicines or natural products, the medicines exhibited excellent effect on the amelioration of hyperlipemia but many side-effects have been observed, e.g. swells of face, hands, legs and mouth, arrhythmia, fever, abdominal pain, eruption, palpitation, convulsion, dizziness and nausea, further in the prevention of the arteriosclerosis with natural products, there is no substance developing significant effect. <P>SOLUTION: By ingesting an extract of Konjak jelly (devil's-tongue), the suppression action of the adhesion of THP-1 (a human monocyte leukemia cell line-1) cells to vascular endothelial cells and the suppression action of the expression of adhesion factor, VCAM-1 (vascular cell adhesion molecule-1), ICAM-1 (intercellular adhesion molecule-1) and E-selectin can be inhibited.
