<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agent for controlling infection caused by a drug resistant bacterium by using, as an active ingredient, a specific microbial agent not using a synthetic antibacterial medicine or an antibiotic as the agent for controlling infection of livestock/poultry or fishes and shellfishes carrying a drug resistant bacterium such as against vancomycin or infected with the bacterium and to provide a method for controlling the infection. <P>SOLUTION: The agent for controlling infection of livestock/poultry or fishes and shellfishes carrying the drug resistant bacterium such as against vancomycin or infected with the bacterium comprises lactic acid bacterium, its dead bacterial body, its treated material or a butyric acid bacterium, Megasphaera elsdenii utilizing lactic acid as an active ingredient.
