<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system wherein deposition of carbon in a reforming part can be prevented. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is provided with a fuel cell 5, a reformer 3 generating reformed gas containing hydrogen from by a steam reforming reaction from the exhaust gas from the fuel cell 5 and hydrocarbon type fuel, an injector 2 supplying the hydrocarbon type fuel to the reformer 3, an air pump 8 supplying gas containing oxygen gas to the reformer 3, an internal combustion engine 10 driven by at least a part of the reformed gas and/or the hydrocarbon type fuel, a flow control valve 9 supplying the reformed gas to the internal combustion engine 10 and a control part 12 determining whether the exhaust gas contains steam required for the steam reforming reaction and controlling the air pump 8 and the flow control valve 9.
