PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding method and equipment which reduce a motive power required for friction stir welding and which enable a friction stir welding tool of a proper size to be used. SOLUTION: The friction stir welding method in which metallic members are joined by superimposing the members on each other, inserting a rotating probe of the friction stir welding tool, softening and stirring the contact part with the probe by frictional heat, is characterized in that the proximity to the probe is heated by a heating means.
