PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terminal fittings, provided with a metal lance and a connecter for housing the terminal fitting for preventing plastic deformation of the lance. SOLUTION: The lance 16 is formed on a ceiling plate 15 of a body part 11 of a female terminal fitting 10. A protective piece 18 is formed by abutting projection ends against each other and facing the lance 16 so as to bend and deform by cutting and raising. Before the female terminal fitting 10 is inserted in a cavity 23 of a female housing 20, the protective piece 18 blocks a bent space 17 of the lance 16 from a side of the projection end, to regulate intrusion of foreign materials, such as an electric wire 40. When the female terminal fitting 10 is regularly inserted in the cavity 23, the lance 16 is engaged with the engaging surface 31 of an engaging part 30 to prevent its slip out, and at that time the protecting piece 18 is pushed by an abutting surface 33, while being bent and deformed. The body part 11 is pushed to the bottom surface 28 of the cavity 23, by restoring the elastic force of the protective piece 18 to stop backlash. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
