PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an area of interest within a composite image. SOLUTION: Color values derived from color characteristics associated with a plurality of sub-blocks of each of a plurality of composite images are calculated. An information value associated with each of the plurality of sub-blocks is determined. The sub-blocks are grouped in order to form an area of interest.
