PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical type engine capable of being miniaturized. SOLUTION: When a virtual straight line 7 for connecting mounting parts 3a, 4a of a pair of locking fittings 3, 4 mutually is assumed when viewing the engine from above a cylinder head 1 in the direction parallel with an axis 6 of a cylinder and an air cleaner 5 is arranged above the cylinder head 1 by positioning the air cleaner 5 at a position where it is overlapped on the virtual straight line 7, an air cleaner bracket 9 loaded with the air cleaner 5 is provided above the cylinder head 1, and a locking part 10 for suspending the engine is provided in the air cleaner bracket 9. A second virtual straight line 11 for connecting the locking fitting 3 attached to either of the mounting parts 3a, 4a of the pair of locking fittings 3, 4 with the locking part 10 is assumed, and the locking part 10 is arranged by preventing the second virtual straight line 11 from being overlapped on the air cleaner 5.
