PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing a hardly decomposable organometallic complex by a simple means, and to provide a means with which a central metal composing the organometallic complex, particularly, a heavy metal such as copper is not plated on a negative electrode but can be recovered as particulates. SOLUTION: This invention comprises the method in which the hardly decomposable organometallic complex is electrolyzed, thereby the central metal is recovered as particulates, and further, ligands are decomposed. According to this invention, the hardly decomposable organometallic complex whose decomposition and removal have been difficult heretofore, particularly, a heavy metal complex of EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) can be extremely easily decomposed, and, in its turn, the reduction in the quantity of organic matter contained in waste water, or the like, is made possible. Thus, it can contribute to the reduction of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) in waste water. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
