1284340α-Isocyanatoalkyl-arenes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [28 April 1970] 20365/70 Heading C2Cα- Isocyanatoalkyl-arenes containing one or more isocyanatoalkyl groups are prepared by reacting anα-haloalkyl-arene with an alkali metal, ammonium, or alkaline earth metal cyanate at elevated temperature in an aromatic nitro compound as the sole solvent. Theα- haloalkyl-arene may have the general formula wherein n is an integer from 1 to 4 and each R independently represents hydrogen on an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, the arene nucleus is preferably a benzene ring which is preferably substituted in at least one position ortho to the CR 2 groups. The aromatic nitric compound is preferably a mononitro compound, preferably, nitrobenzene. As catalysts there may be used iodine, iodine monochloride, bromine, or mixtures thereof. |
