PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adsorbent for oral administration effectively absorbing/removing nitrogen-containing compounds such as creatinine by oral administration to livestock or human. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the adsorbent for oral administration comprising clay particles having a layer structure and having≥50 meq/100g of cation exchange potential, wherein a clay particle suspension of 5 (w/v)% in deionized water manifests pH≤7 (at 25°C), and has≥0.5 proton emissivity defined in the following equation: EH=(B-A)X104[in the equation, A (gram ions/L) is a concentration of hydrogen ion in the suspension, B (gram ions/L) is a concentration of hydrogen ion in dispersing the clay particle in 5 (w/v)% in 1% aqueous solution of sodium chloride].
