PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device securely peeling a recording medium from fixing rolls and thermally fixing a highly accurately formed image without degrading its image quality and glossiness, and also to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The fixing device has the pair of fixing rolls, one of which is at least a heat roll, for fixing an image by conveying a recording medium with an image thereon while sandwiching the recording medium between the fixing rolls. The fixing device has a holding conveyance means for conveying the recording medium between the fixing rolls while holding the leading end of the recording medium. At least one of the pair of fixing rollers has a recess for accommodating the holding conveyance means. The image forming apparatus includes the fixing device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
