PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the other portions of a hoist from being damaged by rapidly stopping a motor when there is the possibility of occurrence of a trouble in the hoist. SOLUTION: In this hoist 13 with a lock mechanism 51, a control means determines that a trouble may occur in a part of the device when the rotated amount of a windup drum 24 exceeds a described range by a time when an upward movement detection switch L1 is operated after a motor M is started in unlocking a hoist body 31 and stops the motor M. The rotated amount of the windup drum 24 is detected by an encoder E.
