The device has diode chips (11, 12), where the chip (1) has a spectral emission distribution with a peak wavelength different from a peak wavelength of an emission distribution of the chip (12). A spectral sensitivity distribution of the chip (11) overlaps with the emission distribution of the chip (12). The chip (11) operates as a radiation (3) detector to monitor radiation produced by the chip (12) operating as a radiation emitter. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling luminescence diode chips of a luminescence diode device.
