PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain high COP operation while balancing the mass flow of a refrigerant passing through a compressor and the mass flow of a refrigerant passing through an expander. SOLUTION: The refrigerating apparatus is provided with a refrigerant circuit 10 with the compressor 11, a heat source side heat exchanger 21, an expanding mechanism 12 and a utilization side heat exchanger 22 connected to perform a steam type refrigerating cycle. The refrigerant circuit 10 is constituted to perform cooling operation of absorbing heat by the refrigerant flowing through the utilization side heat exchanger, and heating operation of radiating heat by the refrigerant flowing through the utilization side heat exchanger. The expanding mechanism is composed of the expander that generates power by the expansion of the refrigerant, and the expander and the compressor are mechanically connected. The refrigerating apparatus is provided with an internal heat exchanger 23 for cooling the high pressure refrigerant flowing into the expander, only during air-conditioning operation and stopping cooling of the high pressure refrigerant during heating operation.
