PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device equipped with substrates arranged in opposition and a spacer arranged between the substrates, excellent in display quality. SOLUTION: The SED is provided with a first substrate 10 on which a phosphor screen is formed; a second substrate arranged in opposition to the first substrate with a gap and equipped with a plurality of electron emission sources; a fixed pedestal 35 arranged at a peripheral edge part of either the first or the second substrate; and a spacer structure fitted between the first and the second substrates, equipped with a support substrate 24 and a plurality of spacers erected on the surface of the support substrate, supporting an atmospheric pressure load acting on the first and the second substrates. The support substrate 24 is engaged with the fixed pedestal 35, and provided with an elastic support part 41 formed in free elastic deformation along a plane direction of the support substrate.
