<p>Apparatus for deflecting or prematurely detonating an incoming missile by the generation of a temporary liquid shock-wall is disclosed. The apparatus may include means for detecting and/or tracking the missile and for triggering a device that projects the liquid shock wall into the path of the missile at the appropriate time. The device (30) may comprise an elongate lightweight frangible plastic container (32) filled with liquid (34). A pair of lengths of detonator cord (36 and 38) can be located centrally within the container (32) by means of an anti-slosh membrane 39. Simultaneous detonation of the cords (366 and 38) will create converging Shockwaves (48 and 50) that result in an elongate jets or walls (52 and 54) of high velocity water being ejected from the rear and front faces of container (32). It is these jets (52 and 54) that can form the desired shock-walls capable of deflecting or detonating incoming missiles.</p> |
