<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a simplified hybrid electronic ballast for an illumination control system which can be easily manufactured at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The hybrid electronic ballast circuit includes a ballast control, a half-bridge driver, and a power switch half bridge in a single package. The ballast circuit includes many defect protections and safety characteristics, and performs self oscillation for driving a resonance circuit including a fluorescent lamp. An internal feedback and a control signal are provided for starting operation, pre-heat, many operation modes including a normal driving mode and a defect protection response mode. A voltage control oscillator maintains zero-volt switching and minimum current switching by adjusting switching frequencies of a switching half bridge.
