<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film capable of restraining the occurrence of iridescence, the occurrence of cracks and the occurrence of variation in retardation. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical film where a birefringent layer (a) formed of a polymer is laminated on a transparent polymer film (b), the birefringent layer (a) and the transparent polymer film (b) satisfy a following expression (1), the birefringent layer (a) satisfies following expressions (2) and (3), and the polymer forming the birefringent layer (a) has a weight-average molecular weight in the range of 10,000 to 400,000. The expression (1) is Δn(a)>Δn(b)×10, the expression (2) is 1<(nx-nz)/(nx-ny) and the expression (3) is 0.0005≤Δn(a)≤0.5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
