PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing state display device and a focusing state display method, by which user can precisely and easily determine the focusing state of a camera, and confirmation and the adjustment of focusing can be conducted, even in a display device that is limited in size and resolution of a portable terminal device, using a built-in camera. SOLUTION: The focusing state display device comprises a focus region extracting means for extracting an image signal, in a predetermined region from a picked-up image signal, edge emphasis processing means for enhancing the edge of the extracted image signal, time integrated value calculating means for calculating the integrated value for a fixed time of the edge-emphasized image signal, focus state discriminating means for discriminating the focusing state of the photographed image signal, based on the calculated integrated value, and focus state display means for displaying the discriminated focus state.
